At this point I'm fearing some sort of defect in both of these machines. I don't have any of the HP software re-installed and I don't see any event viewer logs showing shutdown issues. I don't believe it happened before that, as I wasn't paying too much attention as I thought the other laptop that I haven't restored yet was the only one with that issue. After installing some of the windows updates manually, as they would both fail to download/install a windows update update the behavior seems to start. This behavior has continued even after a full wipe and re-install of windows from the HP recovery disk. Even if left on for more than 24 hours it won't shut down on it's own unless it overheats or I hold down the power button. It will then at that point lock up, the spinning circle stops and the CPU/Case fan kicks in at a higher gear. once told to shutdown or restart it will do everything normally until it reaches the very brink of shutting off. I have two HP Probook 450 G1's that refuse to shut down fully on their own.
